ABANDONED VECHICLES
Any vehicle that is illegally parked that constitutes a hazard or obstruction to the normal movement of traffic will be removed. Removal of abandoned vehicles on private property is the sole responsibility of the property owner. For further information, contact the Pelahatchie Police Department at 601-854-5223.

CLOSING
The Municipal Building will be closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the offices are closed on Friday. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the offices are closed on Monday.

CRIME PREVENTION
The Pelahatchie Police Department is concerned with preventing crime and solving problems in partnership with all residents. Officers are available to discuss home/neighborhood/personal security as well as specific topics concerning residents. Contact the Pelahatchie Police Department at 601-854-5223 for further information.

CRIME REPORTS (NON- EMERGENCY)
Non-emergency crimes may be reported by requesting an officer to respond to your residence or by stopping in at the police department located at 108 Brooks Street.

DANGEROUS DOGS
There are ordinances regulating the owning or harboring of vicious dogs. Contact the Pelahatchie Police Department at 601-854-5223.

EMERGENCY 9-1-1
For emergency police, medical, or fire services, dial 9-1-1. Emergency personnel will be dispatched immediately. Caller name, address and telephone number appears on a separate screen.

EVENTS

FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Fire Department responds to fires and calls for emergency medical assistance from its fire station centrally located in the city. For emergencies call 9-1-1 and for non emergencies call 601-854-5223.

FIRE HYDRANT REPAIRS

GARBAGE PICKUP
Waste Management, Inc. will pick up garbage placed in bags at residences. No loose garbage will be picked up. Waste containers may be set at the curb no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the evening before the scheduled collection day nor left at the curb no later than 6:00 a.m. the day following collection. Bulk items should be placed at the curbside along with your cans. For questions regarding collection, please call Waste Management, Inc. at 601-922-6441 or the Water and Sewer Department at 601-854-5224. www.wastemanagement.com

LEASH LAW
Town ordinance prohibits pet owners to allow their animals to run at large in any street, lane, alley, or public ground, or permit the animal to enter any private yard without consent of the owner. No owner or keeper of a dog, cat, or other domestic animal shall abandon that animal. For further information, call the Pelahatchie Police Department at 601-854-5223.

LIBRARY

LITTER
If you have a complaint about accumulations of litter on private property, please contact the Planning & Zoning Department at 601-854-5224.

LOUD DOGS
No person shall keep or harbor any animal or fowl and fail to prevent that animal from creating unreasonable noise of such character, intensity, and duration as to unreasonably disturb other residents. Violators may be cited. For more information, contact the Pelahatchie Police Department at 601-854-5223.

MAPS OF THE TOWN
Small maps of the Town may be picked up free of charge at City Hall.

MAYOR
The Mayor is elected for a four-year term. The Mayor presides at the Council meetings.

MUNICIPAL BUILDING
Located at 705 Second Street. The offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This facility consists of the City Clerk’s office, Planning & Zoning Department, Utility Billing Office and the Water Department.

NOISE
Excessive sound is prohibited by ordinance. This includes noise of such intensity and duration as to unreasonably disturb the peace and quiet of a residential area. Contact the Police Department at 601-854-5223.

PROHIBITED PARKING PLACES

  • On a sidewalk
  • In front of a public or private driveway
  • Within an intersection
  • Within 10 feet of a fire hydrant
  • On a crosswalk
  • Within one foot of another parked vehicle
  • Within 30 feet of, and upon the approach to any flashing beacon, stop sign, or traffic control device.
  • At any place where signs prohibit stopping, standing or parking, or curbing is painted yellow.

PARKS
Milltown Park, located at 514 Grimes Street is currently under construction.

Muscadine Park, located across from the fire department at 714 Second Street is a focal point for many community events. The Pavilion can be rented for special occasions.

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park is located at 143 Campground Road. Camping, swimming and fishing is available for family fun.

PERMITS AND FEES
Contact the Planning & Zoning Department at 601-854-5224 for permit and fee information. Such permits include sheds, garages, commercial building, deck/porch/patio, outdoor antennas, signs, residential building and swimming pools.

PETS
All dogs must wear registered tags.

RIGHT OF WAY QUESTIONS
The right of way is a strip of land owned by the Town of Pelahatchie, which usually includes the roadway, the land between the roadway and the sidewalk and 1’ behind the walk or the street and the utility poles. Generally, the right-of-way is a stretch of land 10 – 15 feet from the street. No signs, including garage sale or realtor signs, are to be posted in the right of way. For further information, please contact the Town of Pelahatchie.

TREE TRIMMING
Annually, or as need, trees that overhang streets and sidewalks or are near intersections are inspected. If necessary, property owners are notified to trim their trees. Trees should be trimmed so that a cleared height of 9’ is maintained between the lowest branches or foliage and the sidewalk and 14’ above the street.

UNLICENSED VEHICLE
The Town of Pelahatchie requires that vehicles stored outdoors on private property be roadworthy. To report a violation, contact the Police Department at 601-854-5223.

UTILITY BILLING
Readings are entered each month and calculated to generate the billing. The Water Department is open daily Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (closed 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. for lunch). For any questions, please call 601-854-5224.

UTILITY PAYMENTS (CHECK FREE PAY)
The Town of Pelahatchie has contracted with Check Free Pay to accept payments for a majority of billing services. Payments will not be accepted without a bill stub. Some Billers require a processing fee with payments.
